Fight the opening battle at Trafalgar as the British ships Victory, Royal Sovereign, Termeraire and Neptune attempt to pierce the center of the French and Spanish Combined Fleet. Recreate the historic action between the U.S.S. Constitution and H.M.S. Guerriere (find out how the American ship earned her nickname, "Old Ironsides"). Sail into battle against H.M.S. Shannon aboard the U.S.S. Chesapeake and rewrite the naval history of the War of 1812.
Clear for Action recreates ship-to-ship combat in the age of fighting sail in such staggering detail that only a computer can handle it! Select from a library of over 50 ships from the countries of England, Spain, France, the Netherlands, Denmark... and a small struggling nation known as the United States. Relive many of the significant naval actions of this historic period with the eleven scenarios provided, or "build" your own ships and fight it out with up to seven other friends or against the computer.
Ship-to-ship combat is neatly handled, with five different types of ammunition available: grapeshot, round shot, double loads of both, or dismantling shot. Additionally, each ship is individually rated for number and type of guns, sail class, hull strength, crew and morale. Your "tail ship" can be moved under full, battle or backing sail, with the direction and strength of the wind taken into full account.
Clear for Action comes complete with two information-packed manuals: one for operation of the game, the other explicitly detailing just how the many ships were rated, listings of ships for each nation, numerous scenarios, and even a section on how to design your own engagement. In short, everything is here, be ye a seasoned old salt with the briney sea in your veins, or a land-lubber with only a mild interest in the heroic age of wooden ships and iron men!
